The noun “pas”

The noun pas is a monosyllabic word. However, it will not follow the rule that you previously learned about this type of word. In other words, you will not add the -ov- to make it plural. The noun pas has a fleeting -a- in its Nominative form. This means that most of the time, this -a- will disappear when you start changing the noun into different cases. You will be adding the case endings on its stem which is ps-. Look at the forms for Nominative and the Accusative case, in singular and plural forms.

Nominative:

  • Ovo je moj pas Pluto. [sing.] / Ovo su moji psi, Pluto i Rex. [pl/]

Accusative:

  • Imam psa, zove se Pluto. [sing.] / Imam pse, zovu se Pluto i Rex. [pl/]
