In the previous lesson you learned about family members related by blood, and their respective spouses. Today, we will look at the family tree from the perspective of a person who joined the family by marriage.

Robert i obitelj Pintarić

We will use Davor’s parents as an example.

In other words, we will look at his father Robert. We will look from Robert’s perspective and how he would refer to the family members of his wife.

Davor: Family tree

Read the sentences that Robert is saying. Look at the family tree in order to understand the relationships.

Robert says:

  • Vesna je moja žena.
  • Davor je moj sin.
  • Jelena je moja kći.
  • Gordana je moja svastika.
  • Igor je moj svak.
  • Damir je moj šurjak.
  • Marija je moja šurjakinja.
  • Milica je moja punica.
  • Ivo je moj punac.
  • Filip je moj nećak.
  • Kristina je moja nećakinja.

Teresa i obitelj Lopez

We will use Laura’s parents as an example.

In other words, we will look at her mother Teresa. We will look from Teresa’s perspective and how she would refer to the family members of her husband.

Laura: Family tree

Read the sentences that Teresa is saying. Look at the family tree in order to understand the relationships.

Teresa would say:

  • John je moj muž.
  • Laura je moja kći.
  • Travis je moj djever.
  • Paola je moja zaova.
  • Vincent je moj svak.
  • Albert je moj svakar.
  • Ruth je moja svekrva.
  • Kevin je moj nećak.
  • Melissa je moja nećakinja.
