At/by the end of the unit, what do you want the students to be able to do with the language?

Final assessment (Scenario):

You are in Croatia studying for a semester. Choose one city that you want to visit. Your friend will also give their suggestions. You need to say where and why you want to go there. Negotiate with your friend about your destination, say where your suggested city is located in the country. What are your interests and what will you do in that city? Say what you want to visit (squares, museums, parks, etc.). You both need to suggest a hotel to stay in, and provide information about the hotel: its location, distance from main city landmarks, price per night, etc. The accommodation search will happen during this conversation. Compare both of your choices of accommodation and decide where you will stay, discuss your ideas about tours around the city, such as landmarks to see.

For each learning target (Modules 1-3), determine a concrete task that will demonstrate that the students have reached it.

• Module 1
  • In a dialogue, talk about your upcoming trip with your friend. Negotiate where to stay. Provide advantages and disadvantages on different types of accommodation.

• Module 2
  • Dialogue with a friend about your plans for a day while visiting a certain city. Ask for and give directions. Negotiate where to go, what to see/visit/do. Make a logical plan so you do not waste time on transportation.
• Module 3
  • Talk about your future plans. Reflect on past events that are very important to you. Talk about your best friend(s) and how you met. Talk about how you became friends, including what happened that was important in developing your friendship.
