Time to take things up a notch! When you’re making new friends, you don’t just stop at “Where are you from?” or “What do you study?” You probably want to learn a bit more, like what they enjoy doing in their free time or where they love to hang out. So, let’s shift gears and expand our vocabulary! Let’s hear what Laura and James have to say about their interests. Oh, and quick check! Do you remember where they’re from in the U.S.? 🇺🇸 😉

James: Dobar dan! Zovem se James. Ja sam student i studiram restauraciju. Ja sam Amerikanac i ovo je moja zemlja – Sjedinjene Američke Države, a moj se grad zove Austin. To je zanimljiv i moderan grad. Ljudi su dobri. Moj fakultet je dobar i jako je velik. Moj studij je zanimljiv. Volim umjetnost, sport i prirodu.

1.3.1 Zadatak 4: Glavni grad

🎞️ Watch the video. Based on your own opinion, mark everything that applies. You have a list of adjectives provided below. They are all given in antonym pairs (antonym = a word opposite in meaning to another word).

❗ Keep in mind: not all adjectives listed below can logically describe a city (this is intentional). To complete the task successfully, make sure you fully understand the meaning of each adjective before selecting it.

Now that you’ve selected the adjectives that best describe Zagreb (in your opinion), check if your classmates agree with you. Talk to at least two classmates. Ask them questions using the adjectives you picked.

For example, if you chose the adjective moderan, ask: ➤ Je li Zagreb moderan grad?

Your classmate can answer in one of two ways:

🟢 If they agree:

  •  Da, mislim da je Zagreb moderan grad.

🔴 If they disagree:

  •  Ne, mislim da Zagreb nije moderan grad.

🔊 Listen to dialogue and answer the questions with your classmate… Laura and Mario are getting to know each other better. It’s their first real conversation and the first time they’re spending time together since Laura started her Croatian language classes.

1.3.1 Zadatak 6: Koliko se dobro poznajemo?

👥 Earlier on you heard your classmates presenting about themselves. Now, talk with one of your classmates about some of the classmates you have gotten to know. Even though you already made notes about all of your classmates, you should not read from these notes. Try speaking on your own, working from memory. How well do you know your classmate?

While presenting, the classmate you are working with will check how accurate you are in your presentation since they are able to follow your notes. If you make a mistake, your classmate will correct you by giving the correct information. When you are done, switch roles and choose another classmate to talk about.
