Što smo naučili?

📝  Welcome to today’s homework! This is your chance to review what we covered in class and practice a little more. If anything feels tricky, make a note of it and bring your questions to our next session. Ready? Let’s get started!

1.2.2 Zadatak 1: Tko su oni

Earlier you learned about some famous people who were present on Croatian banknotes before Euro. Let’s review and see if you remember who they are. Mark the correct answer.

1.2.2 Zadatak 2: Matija i James

Listen to the dialogue between James and Matija. They’re meeting for the first time in Split, Croatia.

James, Ines, and Matija

Transkripcija
James: Bog! Ja sam James.
Matija: Bog, James. Ja sam Matija. Drago mi je
James: Drago mi je.
Matija: James, ti si Amerikanac?
James: Da, jesam.
Matija: Tvoja zemlja je baš zanimljiva.

Take a moment to think:

  • What kind of relationship do they have?
  • How do they greet each other?
  • What kind of questions are asked?
  • How does Matija respond to James being from the U.S.?

Now reflect and discuss (in English):

1. How do James and Matija greet each other?

  • Is it formal or informal?
  • Would you greet someone like this in your country?

2. Matija asks: “Ti si Amerikanac?”

  • What do you think about this question?
  • Is it something people in your culture would ask right away? Explain.

3. Matija says: “Tvoja zemlja je baš zanimljiva.”

  • Why do you think she says this?
  • What might this tell us about how people in Croatia speak to new acquaintances?

4. What kind of first impression do you think James and Matija make on each other?

5. Imagine you meet someone new in your city.

  • What do you usually say?
  • Would this kind of conversation feel natural to you?

1.2.2 Zadatak 3: Dijalog

👥 Rad u paru: You need to meet virtually with a classmate to complete the task. After your conversation, submit your assignment through our Learning Management System.

Create a dialogue with other classmate(s). Continue to get to know your classmates better. Aim to use all the of the language elements we have covered so far, and be sure to include:

  • question forms (are you, is he/she, etc.)
  • negation (I am not, he/she is not, etc.)
  • statements (giving a brief statement, one-word-sentence)
  • more about physical and character traits
