Appendix 2: University Policies
The University of Texas at Austin’s Acceptable Use of ChatGPT and Similar Tools evolved over the course of this grant program. To disambiguate policies and expected actions for faculty award recipients, the grant administrators also created the following flow chart in collaboration with the Office of Academic Technology (Figure).
Figure: Flow chart for AI tool selection and approval used by Cohort 2
The following list details the actions required by the University of Texas at Austin shown in the Figure:
- ACTION A: Complete a form to request purchase of the AI tool(s) needed for your project.
- ACTION B: Disable ChatGPT from using your data to train the model, and (if students are using the tool) provide these instructions to your students.
- ACTION C: Email the bookstore to add the AI tool to your course materials.
- ACTION D: Determine if your proposed tool is TX-RAMP Authorized – see also this list
- ACTION E: Contact the service provider to inquire about TX-RAMP authorization. If the provider does not seek authorization, the instructor (you) assumes responsibility for any risks associated with using the AI tool.
