Život u manjim mjestima donosi razne prednosti – mirniji i opušteniji život, svjež zrak i povezanost među ljudima. No, donosi i neke stvari koje možda nisu toliko primjetne u gradu. Jedna stvar koja mi pada na pamet je da su ljudi u manjim sredinama često više praznovjerni. Često gnjave besmislenim stvarima koje nisu istina. Kod nas na otoku ljudi još uvijek vjeruju u stvari koje se prenose s koljena na koljeno. To se prvenstveno odnosi na starije ljude koji i dalje paze da se ne ureknu. Na primjer, ako crna mačka prijeđe preko ceste, mnogi misle da će se dogoditi nešto loše. Ako prospeš sol, moja baka kaže da odmah trebaš baciti malo soli preko lijevog ramena – da otjeraš nesreću i vraga koji vreba. Još jedno poznato praznovjerje je da ne smiješ sjediti na rubu stola. To znači da nećeš imati sreće u ljubavi i zauvijek ćeš ostati sam. Postoji i praznovjerje da ne smijemo otvarati kišobran u kući. Kažu da to donosi nesreću. Kad sam bio mali, nikada nisam htio jesti dok mi roditelji ne otvore kišobran. Volio sam kišobrane, pa eto, izgleda da ta nesreća nikad nije stigla. Na otoku starije žene često govore da ne smiješ ići van mokre kose, jer ćeš navući prehladu na sebe. Eh da, i još jedno praznovjerje – ako zaboraviš nešto kod kuće i vratiš se po to, kažu da će ti se dogoditi nešto loše. Zato trebaš sjesti na trenutak i tek onda opet izaći iz kuće. Praznovjerja možda nisu istinita, ali su dio naše kulture. Ona nam govore kako su ljudi nekad razmišljali i čega su se bojali.
