Impersonal Sentences

Impersonal sentences are sentences in which the performer of the action is not explicitly stated. These sentences are used when the agent of the action is unknown, unimportant, or general (such as an unspecified group of people).

Structure and characteristics

  • The verb in impersonal sentences is always in the third person singular.
  • Use of particle se in impersonal sentences.
  • These sentences do not state who is performing the action. The agent may be unknown, numerous, or irrelevant to the meaning of the sentence.
  • Impersonal sentences are often used for timeless or commonly repeated actions. They are frequently seen in proverbs, general statements, and journalistic writing.
