Should — Would — Could
Here is an overview of how to use them in Croatian. The examples only show masculine and feminine first person singular (ja form). Consult the lesson from the previous semester about Conditional.
SHOULD (I should read this book)
- Trebao bih pročitati ovu knjigu. (masculine)
- Trebala bih pročitati ovu knjigu. (feminine)
The rule is: TREBATI (Present Conditional) + infinitive of another verb
COULD (I could read this book)
- Mogao bih pročitati ovu knjigu. (masculine)
- Mogla bih pročitati ovu knjigu. (feminine)
The rule is: MOĆI (Present Conditional) + infinitive of another verb
WOULD like (I would like to read this book)
- Želio bih pročitati ovu knjigu. (masculine)
- Željela bih pročitati ovu knjigu. (feminine)
The rule is: ŽELJETI (Present Conditional) + infinitive of another verb
