Present Tense of verbs that end in –NUTI
In Croatian, some verbs end in –nuti in the infinitive. When you conjugate them in the present tense, they lose the –uti part. These verbs are common in everyday situations, especially when talking about helping or taking care of others.

The verb potaknuti means to encourage, to motivate, or to stimulate someone or something.
Učitelj je potaknuo učenike da volontiraju.
= The teacher encouraged the students to volunteer.
Njegova prezentacija je potaknula raspravu u razredu.
= His presentation prompted a discussion in the classroom.
Nova pravila potaknula su ljude da više recikliraju.
= The new rules motivated people to recycle more.
The verb maknuti means to move (something/someone away), to remove, or to get out of the way (maknuti se).
Makni knjigu sa stola.
= Move the book from the table.
Molim te, makni se s puta.
= Please get out of the way.
Maknuli su stari namještaj iz sobe.
= They removed the old furniture from the room.
The verb podignuti means to lift, to raise, to pick up.
Podigni torbu s poda.
= Pick up the bag from the floor.
Podignuli su ruke u zrak.
= They raised their hands in the air.
Moramo podignuti šator prije mraka.
= We need to set up (raise) the tent before dark.
The verb pognuti means to bend down, to bow, to lower (the head or body) — usually as a quick or one-time action (perfective).
Morao je pognuti glavu da prođe kroz vrata.
= He had to bend his head to pass through the door.
Svi su pognuli glave u znak poštovanja.
= They all bowed their heads as a sign of respect.
The verb odmaknuti (and its reflexive form odmaknuti se) means to move away, to step aside, to distance (oneself/something).
Molim te, odmakni stolicu od zida.
= Please move the chair away from the wall.
Odmakni se malo, ne vidim ploču.
= Move aside a little, I can’t see the board.
