Santiago nam govori o svojoj obitelji i uspomenama koje su povezane s odrastanjem i hranom koju je često jeo. Govori o roditeljima i tko voli kuhati.

Odrastao sam na domaćoj kuhinji jer je moja mama uvijek kuhala. Ona nikada nije voljela dostavu i kupovna jela. Hladnjak je uvijek bio pun smrznute već pripremljene hrane. Stalno je kuhala da, ne daj bože, nema nešto već pripremljeno.

Oboje mojih roditelja su voljeli kuhati, ali mama je kuhala više jer je tata često bio odsutan poslom. Odrastajući na maminoj hrani, oduvijek sam volio čileanska jela, poput pite od kukuruza i mesa ili guste juhe s mesom i povrćem. To su bila jela koja smo često jeli. No, bilo je tu i hrvatske hrane.

Mama je naučila pripremati i neka tradicionalna hrvatska jela. Tata ju je naučio s vremenom. Često smo jeli pašticadu, ribu na gradele ili blitvu s krumpirom. Blitva je bila tatino omiljeno jelo.Mama je uvijek voljela isprobavati tradicionalne recepte, bilo čileanske ili hrvatske. No, nešto što nikada nije probala napraviti je janjetina ispod peke. To je uvijek bio tatin zadatak. Sjećam se kako je često kad smo ljeti bili u Hrvatskoj razgovarala s bakom i tetama pokušavajući zapamtiti sve tajne domaće kuhinje.

Danas volim obje kuhinje. Volim kuhati čileanska i hrvatska jela za svoje prijatelje. Kad pozovem prijatelje na večeru, često kombiniram tradicionalna jela iz obje zemlje. To me veseli. Osjećam povezanost s obje strane obitelji i kulinarskim običajima Čilea i Hrvatske..
