About

PyMOL is a commercial product, with an open-source philosophy. Thanks to the Open-Source project, much of its source code is freely available, under a permissive license. PyMOL is maintained and distributed by Schrödinger. An education-use only license is also freely available for PyMOL.

The PyMOL community is very active and has a great PyMOLWiki Page.
