3 – Les vacances

Vocabulaire: 3.5 – Le temps et les saisons

1. Preparation

In this vocabulary list, you will learn vocabulary related to weather (le temps) and saisons (les saisons)

Attention:

  • Earlier in chapter 3, you learned idiomatic expressions with faire; these have figurative meanings, as opposed to literal, meanings:
  • In this vocabulary list, the verb faire is used as an impersonal expressions to describe the weather.
    • The expression “Il fait” literally means “He does”.
    • However, when it is used to describe weather, we will translate it as:It is…”. (hence an impersonal expression, as it does not refer to a person).
    • Just like with the faire idiomatic expressions, pay close attention to the prepositions used with faire in this list (du, des). Study these propositions as part of the expressions.
  • When learning the vocabulary words for the seasons, make sure to also learn the different prepositions used to mean “in + season” (au, en)
