3 – Les vacances

Grammaire: 3.3 – Le verbe “faire”

faire = to do, to make

La formation

The verb faire is irregular in the present tense.

faire  ‘to do, to make’
je fais    ‘I do/make’ nous faisons   ‘we do/make’
tu fais   ‘you (sg.) do/make’ vous faites  ‘you (pl.) do/make’
elle/il/eil/on fait   ‘she/he/they/one does/makes’ elles/ils/eils font   ‘they do/make’

Attention

  • Note the vous form faites. It is unusual because it does not end in ez.
    • être has a similar form in the vous person: vous êtes).
  • You may notice, too, the similarity in the third person plural forms of aller, être, and faire:
    • ils vont (they go)
    • ils sont (they are)
    • ils font (they do/make)
