La formation:
The verb aller is irregular in the present tense.
Listen carefully to the pronunciation of the -s in the plural forms nous and vous forms. This -s is pronounced as a /z/ to link with the vowel sound in the plural forms allons and allez.
aller ‘to go’ | |
je vais ‘I go’ | nous allons ‘we go’ |
tu vas ‘you (sg.) go’ | vous allez ‘you (pl.) go’ |
elle/il/eil/on va ‘she/he/they/one goes’ | elles/ils/eils vont ‘they go’ |
Usages:
- Aller literally means ‘to go’.
- It is also figuratively in salutations to say how one is doing.
- Joe-Bob: Tu vas bien?
- Tex: Oui, je vais bien!
