Vocabulaire: Les présentations

Introductions

1. Preparation

In this vocabulary list, you will learn how to introduce people (their name, where they are from, and their profession).

As we studied in our first lesson, there are masculin and feminine forms of the word “student”: un étudiant (masculin), une étudiante (feminine).

This is also the case for some professions (just like in English: actor/actress, waiter/waitress, etc.).

Letters in red show the feminine form for each profession:

un.e étudiant.e student
un.e architecte architecte
un acteur / une actrice actor / actress
  • un étudiant simple takes a “e” for the feminine form → une étudiante
    • To signal that a masculin form takes an “e” in the feminine form, we use a period + e in the vocabulary list: un.e étudiant.e
    • Notice that the article “un” also takes an “e” to refer to a feminine form: une
  • un architecte already has an “e” in the masculine form, so the feminine form stays the same → une architecte
  • un acteur becomes une actrice, with the ending “eur” becoming “rice

→What other patterns do you notice in the professions below?
