Capitalization of subjects
Unlike in English where languages are capitalized (French, Spanish, English), languages are not capitalized in French (le français, l’espagnol, l’anglais).
Plural subjects
Some subjects in French are in a plural form, such as: les sciences politiques, les mathématiques.
Plural subjects
Many words in French resemble their English translations. These words are called cognates. Examples are: la biologie (biology), la littérature (literature), la géographie (geography), etc.
While studying make sure to highlight the differences in spelling as these can be tricky to memorize.
Learning Objectives
We will explore the French language and culture by following the lives of real students from the University of Texas who have participated in the UT Summer Program in Lyon, France.
In addition to following the exploits of these UT students, we will also watch interviews of native French speakers, as well as scenes of day-to-day interactions in France.
In Chapitre Préliminaire (Ch. 0), we will meet students from the University of Texas and the French-speaking critters of Tex’s French Grammar.
