General Take-Away
Adjectives in the Accusative Case act a lot like the nouns they describe. Feminine adjectives must ‘decline’ for Accusative Case. Feminine adjectives end in -ую / -юю. Masculine (inanimate) and neuter adjectives, like the nouns they describe, do not undergo any change of endings in the Accusative Case.
The Rules
Feminine ALSO decline for the Accusative Case, and in a very similar fashion to the nouns. (Inanimate) masculine and neuter adjectives do NOT change, like the nouns they modify. GREAT NEWS! But you need to know how feminine adjectives behave. Here are the basic rules.
Feminine adjectives ending in -ая in the Nominative Case become -ую in the Accusative Case. These are hard-stem adjectives. Feminine nouns ending in -яя in the Nominative Case become -юю in the Accusative Case. These are soft-stem adjectives.
Наприме́р
Hard stem:
- но́вая »» но́вую
- хоро́шая »» хоро́шую
- интере́сная »» интере́сную
Soft stem:
- дома́шняя »» дома́шнюю
