1.7 Грамма́тика – Mine, Mine, Mine!
Грамма́тика
Do you remember the various ways to say ‘my’ and ‘your’? Мой and твой, right? Well, take a look at these forms below. Do you notice anything?
Plural
Чьи это ве́щи? | ‘Whose things are these?’ |
Э́то мои́ ве́щи. | ‘These are my things.’ |
The plural interrogative pronoun (чьи), meaning ‘whose’, and possessive pronoun (мои́), meaning ‘my’, are used in the examples here precisely because ве́щи is a plural noun. (We will learn more about plural nouns very soon.) NOTE the difference between мой (singular) and мои́ (plural).
Let’s add TWO words to your vocabulary today – мои́ and твои́, as in:
Э́то твои́ очки́? | |
Э́то мои́ очки́. |
Each ‘possessive pronoun’ that you’ve so far learned has 4 forms in Russian:
мой (masc) | твой (masc) |
моя́ (fem) | твоя́ (fem) |
моё (neuter) | твоё (neuter) |
мои́ (plural) | твои́ (plural) |
NOTE: The й in мой and the и in мои́ are DIFFERENT LETTERS!
