Уро́к 2 Overview and Goals

Поздравляем!

You have successfully completed your first unit for this course, and you have learned to do a lot with Russian! You know all 33 letters, and can read in Russian fairly well. You can ask and answer simple questions in Russian. You can say that something belongs to you or someone else. You can identify the grammatical gender of inanimate objects and you understand the difference between formal and informal greetings in Russian.

In this next unit you will expand your capabilities even more. We begin to learn about verbs and the Russian case system, which give you more ways to communicate. And do not worry if you don’t know what ‘case’ means yet.

Уро́к 2 Learning Objectives

In this unit you will learn:

  • all about Russian names, including first and last names as well as the patronymic,
  • more about accent and pronunciation,
  • to talk about family,
  • to describe where something or someone is,
  • the names of countries and capital cities,
  • to say you where you work, study, and live,
  • to identify the features and landmarks of your city,
  • and to say you speak a language!
