Чте́ние

Directions:

Read the following text about a cute little hedgehog named Oleg and his friend Polina. Consider reading aloud to yourself. Translate to yourself as you read. Afterward, practice reading more cognates and identifying their grammatical gender in Russian.

Кто Оле́г и Поли́на?

Он – Оле́г
Она́ – Поли́на
Оно́ – окно́

Кто э́то? Э́то – Оле́г.
Кто э́то? Э́то – Поли́на.
Что э́то? Э́то – окно́.

Пра́ктика

Oleg created the following practice set for identifying grammatical gender of nouns. Work through it by reading the statement in Russian on the card. Try to identify the gender and appropriate pronoun (он, она́, оно́). Flip the card to check your answer!

For this exercise, read the statement and then fill in the blanks with the correct pronoun for the given noun: он, она́, or оно́. Do not copy and paste into the blank! You should not use stress marks in your answer.

If you’re not sure about the gender, you can check it at this free online dictionary: https://en.openrussian.org/
